Cow & the Moon

Ever had to balance on the curb of Victoria St Darlinghurst trying not to get pushed into traffic by the Hipster masses just to get a Gelato from Messina?? Well no more! Walking up to Cow and the Moon you hear so many "Ooohs and Ahhs" you would think there are fireworks about.

Cow & amp; the Moon on Enmore Rd did great guns at Sydney Royal Easter Show 2011 getting the Grand Champion Exhibition award with 4 Gold and 8 silver ribbons, the sign stating just that finally pulled me in the door. 'Lime in the Coconut' received a score of 19.00 out of 20 making it Best Gelato at 2011 show.

Scores are based on Flavour out 10, Texture out of 6 and Appearance out of 4. Other big flavour winners were the Fig & Caramalised Walnut (19.00), Passionfruit Creme (18.67) and Sticky Date Crumble (18.17). I didn't have any of these as I wanted something different.

Gelato isn't the only thing on the menu here. There is an assortment of tiny chocolate, pastry/pie things and macaroons! If you're thirsty they also cater for that.

Quite a busy store with seating inside and a few tables outside if that takes your fancy. It's fairly busy at 9pm on a Friday night when I was there and manage to make my way to the counter dodging people holding out spoons urging their friends to "Try this it's the best" only for the friend to counter act with their own.

I was served by a lovely lady who complimented my necklace from Polli (Thank you!) and ordered a cup of Blackcurrant & Boysenberry and Cafe Lait. The berry one was crisp and fresh and had distinct fruity flavours but never really having a whole lot of either berry I can't say as to whether the flavour was authentic or not. It was tops though and I would definitely get it again as it was really quite refreshing without being too icy in texture. The coffee was creamy and smooth but I really expected to to be a bit punchier with the coffee tones, mainly because in the cabinet there were beans sprinkled on top. There was good consistent flavour with a slight hint of coffee and I enjoyed it far more than other coffee essence ice-creams. Maybe it is just that I am used to fake coffee desserts.

I think my serving was about $5. The menu board has orders of small, medium and large rather than the usual cup serving, I prefer this serving method. This is my new favourite dessert place. Better than a Frosty Fruit - big claim.

A Church House Gin House

The culinary delight below is the 'Lots-a-tots' meal which can only be enjoyed at Hooters.

Tater tots covered with bacon, cheese sauce, sour cream and chives.

If you can manage to get past the horrendous outfits the girls have to wear and the offensive décor you can enjoy the service at Hooters which was quite nice and welcoming, everyone yells 'welcome to Hooters' as you walk in. This was shared between three but I may have had a coronary after.

We Can Take What Was Wrong and Make it Right

Super quick dinner and drinks last week were had at Mr Fox on Crown St Surry Hills.

I had the Espresso Martini, between $13-16 and a tasting plate for two which was about $26. Really cool place. The drinks were great, good atmosphere. The menu we had was a children's book with the menu pasted inside! The food however was very avg. Most of my shared tasting plate was left over because it missed the mark in so many ways and my mates burger was burnt and dry.

It's a fairly new place. I'd go again for the drinks and hopefully the food will pick up in a time. No website, heaps of reviews online though.

It's Alive!!!!

I have been out and about doing things. I seemed to of lost a lot of motivation after the project ended. My memory hasn't been all that great either.Maybe I'll have to get back on it.

Mac Uni sells out and gets trashes the grounds they used to bang on about so much.

Corn Fakes. Do not like them. We used to go camping at Wyangala Dam as kids and for school camps. For some reason they would always have Corn Flakes as breakfast. Sogginess overload.

Gelato in Newtown with  Dr K

I get a major 'craving' for grass/nature sometimes. I had not been on grass for a few months, maybe Christmas. So I went the long way round to get to AGNSW for the Entombed Warriors exhibition with BB.

I started my Internship as part of my Social Science degree about three weeks ago. Getting back into the swing of Uni and than have to Intern it up twice a week has thrown me. Am not a good sleeper, I'll tell you about the night terrors some other time maybe.

Of Our Elaborate Plans, The End

Final few days of the 365 project. Thought I would be able to finish of the whole project by posting everyday. Obviously that plan fell through.

A staple for my High School lunches was a frozen Orchy bucket. Ma works at Little Bro's canteen so I am still able to get my fix. In preparation for the coming run I thought I should stock up on 'ice bricks' to keep my pre and post run snacks cool.

Bit of a pain to eat - 08/02

Maybe I'll write a more in-depth post about this at a later date. Basically I have been wearing this around my wrist for a year. I'm aware that it is a just a length a wool by I have managed to instill so much emotion and meaning into wearing it that I do feel a bit odd when I have to take it off (mainly Netball related).

Loopsy - 09/02

Got the Laser serviced. This gave me the opportunity to hang about King St and do a few things I have never found the time for. Such as a visit to A Coffee and a Yarn in Newtown. There is some knitting supplies there with wool and books. I just wanted to sit down have a coffee and get some done on a scarf that I had been working on for awhile. E gave me the wool over a year ago, a wool she had dyed herself and I wanted to make a good scarf for myself with. It has been on needles for at least 6 months. They have lesson and a drop-in style assistance thing every second Wednesday.

Stockinette - 10/02

With the run the next day I thought it best I do absolutely nothing. Lay about and did some reading of some books that have been sitting on my table for ages. I got this books as a 2009 Christmas present from P. So far it is good. A little violent, didn't know what I was expecting though.

Capote - 11/02

I took the first photo of this project at the opening ceremony of 2010 Chinese New Year Celebrations. So maybe I should have ended this project on the 11th February. I think it would be more exciting to finish off with a more momentous event like a 5km run with 10 obstacles through mud. The Warrior Dash had it's first Australian event at Glenworth Valley on the 12th and I thought I'd give it a good Aussie Go!

It was hard! I found it pretty hard anyway. I didn't do any training because of my injuries in the past few weeks. I think I found it particularly hard because I don't really like to run, I get bored, the only way I find I can power on is by listening to music. Electronic equipment not exactly advisable when you have to walk through mud and swim across creeks, although some ran their cameras anyway.

Some random Warriors - 12/02

I think I may do it next year... perhaps. Def will train leading up to it and not wear long pants next time. Not exactly definite plans but I'll put it on the To Do list.

This Way To Progress

Had more of my nectarines and yogurt. This time with apricots and honey! I rarely eat honey. I love that it comes in a bear shape. If only it didn't have that large label. He looks like he is staring into the distance. Reminds me of one of those Communist Propaganda posters.

Onwards - 29/01

Had a somewhat productive but still quick lazy day. Did some reading to try and make a dint in my stack of 'to read' books. Went to the library to find some audio books. Nearly finished of a scarf I am knitting for me. Most importantly I treated myself to a coffee and choc brownie from a cafe near home.

Crunchy yet smooth - 30/01

It went way to quickly.

Fun Filled Festivities For Family & Friends

When I find food I enjoy I eat it constantly. Usually to the point where I will hate it and not touch it for months. Currently it is Apricots, Nectarines with the fancy awesome yogurt. Had it for 3 days. Think it only stopped because of my laziness to go on an expedition to the shops for fruit.

 Fruity - 16/01

One meal that has stood its ground is muesli with yogurt for breakfast. Have anything else and I become either stupid through tiredness or agitated through hunger. I would possibly be traumatised if I couldn't have dairy.

Spent the afternoon with E and her young man. Lazed about and chatted. Tried a bit of chili in my burger... baby steps. Tried to get Wills to be a part of my 365 project. He gave it a go with a slightly abstract portrait.

 Modernism - 17/01

Sister and Niece came to town. I was asked to take them somewhere "fun and interesting. Like when we used to go to Planet Hollywood and Hard Rock Cafe". Could not think of anywhere beside pubs and with a 10yr old that was not really an option. Put it to the world of FB and a few places I had already gone to came up. We ended at I Chi Ban Teppan-yaki. Twas awesome. I went there for Ms Television's Hen's Night. My niece has a great time. I caught my rice on the bowl but smashed my egg and dropped my cooked egg. Can't all be winners.

Ready for the flicking - 18/01

Have a packed full few days where I'll be dragging them about Sydney giving my own versions of Sydney Historical Tours.

Around The Traps

Have been busy and therefore quite slack on putting anything on here. Also, didn't feel like it cause I have not done anything interesting.

 Happy fruit - 08/11

At uni a lot now. Doing assignment. I work heaps better in the dead of night under the fluorescent lighting in the library. See I do check the blog even if I don't update. Moderating all those comments.

Double time on those essays - 09/11

Still at Uni. I do go home for sleep. I get there late. It's like power study. Not in focus as it was 1:30am and I was on my way out and TIRED.

 Uni courtyard - 10/11

Sometimes... there truly is nothing to photograph. This is the house recycling. It looked a lot better in my mind. All shiny. Not so much in photographic from I guess.

Drink? - 11/11

The Silver Bullet is soooo power that just by merely tapping the gutter I can blow a tyre. Awesome skills.

It had to be a 28 degree day too - 12/11

My first beach day of the year! Finished work at 1:30pm. Decided Freshwater would be best option. Walked down and noticed it looked a bit choppy but thought I'd wing it. Not exactly the best swimmer and do have a bit of a fear of the ocean. I got thrashed. In for a total of 15 mins. Think I managed to stand upright for about 2. Massive drag, went in at the flags and ended up further down the beach. Talked to Flatmate D after and he said Manly was closed for swimmers that day and told me some more Aly friendly beaches for next time.

Sticking close to the guards - 13/11

P and I are trying to do regular runs of a Monday arvo. Again that didn't happen because of rain.

sad flowers - 14/11

Again with the rain. Seriously. I have heard rumours that this crap weather will continue throughout Summer. Kinda glad that I managed a swim the other day then.

Weird flower hybrid - 15/11

One more week and Uni will be gone. Done. Maybe I'll have a ceremonial burning of my two least fav subject textbooks.

The Wind Cries Mary

What's that? Been missing the dinner posts! Fear not. If I were to line up all my dinner posts I doubt I would be able to tell the difference. It's pretty much the same meal.

Same meal, slightly better photography - 13/10

I have short hair. Considering my hectic, mega busy lifestyle it is handy. Mile a minute is how my life is best described. I have a mega HUGE cowlick though. To combat this we (my hairdresser and I) decided to cut it shorter hoping it would do something that sounded good when I was slightly comatose in the chair after incredible lack of sleep. She also offered me a lollie (sugar) when I told how tired I was. After sucking on it she let me know it was in fact a prune lollie ?????? She must have seen my gagging face. Throughout the day all my efforts in taming the balcony go to waste. I could probably hide something under it.

It's hard taking a photo of the forehead - 14/10

Cloud Control gig was a gift from T. The gift was a ticket, not the show itself. Tried to not take many photos as I did want to enjoy it and The Metro has fairly shit lighting that I am yet to figure out how to photograph. Check them out if you can. Seekae were also there to get the crowds pumped. I was suitably enthused especially after their sampling of Super Mario Bros music.

Cloud Control - 15/10

Been a bit windy in Syd. People honestly loose their shit in this city when there is unseasonable weather. Admittedly 285km may be a bit of a reason to freak out. I was on the bus the other day when a slight smattering of rain started. Cue: people running straight into each other. Everyone look down and run there is water falling from the sky. Water falling from the sky, can you believe it???

Wind is hard to photograph - 16/10

Mary Mackillop became a Saint. I will readily admit my ignorance. I knew not much of this lady. I am not completely detached, I had heard her name bandied about. This was all to go down on Sunday. I finished work at 11 near North Sydney, her church is in North Sydney. The planets aligned and I knew I had to go. This point further hit home as Alexisonfire 'The Northern' came on my iPod as I rounded to corner and saw all the folk waiting to get their religion on.

It is not my intention to make light of this situation.

I had this idea as to what it would be like going to Mary's church. A place that she set up to help people, to educate people, to live and in the end she actually dies there. I did not think I would have to put up with people shoving and chanting protest slogans after having at a gate for 10 mins. They had to wait because Mass was still on. Hmmmm. Talked to a volunteer there by the name of Bette. She said she was a Joey's girl back in the day and left in '34. Odd to think Saint Mary had only just passed as Bette was coming to school age.

The museum there is informative and well put together. Learnt more about the Sister of Saint Joseph. After getting sick of the people I decided to hang about in the garden and listen to the singing. Took the plunge and actually took my camera off auto!

There was only two planting of the Mary Mackillop Rose in bloom. Apparently they only really come out in July.

The Rose -17/10

My Mum used to make me tha coolest lunches! I remember a few times when kids would look in my lunch box and exclaim that I did indeed have a great lunch. Yeah, I am awesome. Ma used to get obscure treat things and chuck them in. I swear we got these once. Because of Halloween all these top treats are coming out.

Ghostys - 18/10

I update on the book of face that there was a fog machine on sale at ALDI. Whoa, did people comment. I honestly did stand there for a moment debated the necessity of a fog machine. One litre of fog lasts for an hour. At $40 I think it is a bargain though.

How awesome am I that I was able to figure out a song that related to two parts of the post! Genius would not be an understatement

30 Days Has September

Final few days of 30 Days Has September. Really enjoyed doing it. Although I wish that I had managed to knock more off my list. I have decided to continue it into October. Think I really overestimated how much time there actually was in September.

 Errr... skating - 29/09

James tried to teach me how to Olley in the work carpark. Did not think it would be that hard. I can be seen here asking James to explain again while I remember my lack of balance and spatial awareness. Apparently, I did alright. Did get a week bit of air and landed once or twice. I was being held up though so that may be something...

Final days of September. Filled in for the netball team. So my final Sept achievement was 'Trying New Food'.

Turkish Delight - 30/09

Had my first 'real' Felafel and real Turkish Delight. Felafel was good. Delight was a little too sticky for me.

I like the 30 Days challenge. It is pretty much like this blog, except I was raising money for charity. It also gave me a bit more enthusiasm that I may of lost after doing this Photo a Day thing for so many months. I'm my '30 Days' I took a Hip-Hop dance class, tried new food, had my cards read, did two A-Towns, ran the Bridge Run,  saw tow live bands that I otherwise may not of bothered seeing, saw my first AFL game, went to Trivia and tried to learn to skate. Fairly successful month and... I did it all while being incredibly ill! Yay me.

Throw Your Set In The Air

Went to another dance class with Irish M. We kind of felt like we were only there to watch the teacher dance with her mates. I did not come away with any dance moves to impress the lovely gents of Sydney.

I did however purchase and overpriced breaded item of the sugary persuasion. I tried out my fancy pants new phone (not an iPhone) photo skills.

 Old skool donuts - 23/09

Managed to score a spare ticket to see Cypress Hill at the Enmore theatre! I don't know much of their old stuff apart from the usual popular stuff that made the crowd loose their collective shit. I honestly prefer their newer rockier (a word???) album. Rise Up. I didn't try out my newly acquired Hip-Hop dance moves on the crowd. A bit to crowded to impress.

 Insane - 24/09

My first ever AFL game! Never really been into the game. Also don't really know the rules that great either. Turns out it was a pretty good game to be watching. Slightly disappointing in that it was a draw and they will be playing again next week.

But a few moments left - 25/09

MEGA MEGA post.

Borrowing a computer just to get things. Don't realise how handy and necessary a computer is until you don't have one all the time. Well me anyway. Am really quite worried that I won't be able to get all (or any) or my stuff off the comp. That is years worth of shit and highly important info stored on there. Most photos have been saved to disk. But, I may lose all my travel notes, uni stuff and iTunes library... NOOOO!

Have had to wing a few of these photos just from the sequence in the camera and my funtastic memory.

Utter nonsense (possible slow day) - 25/08

Went and saw 'Scott Pilgrim vs The World'. Fantastic. One of my fav movies of the year. Massive claim considering it has been the year of 3D. Am yet to see Pirahana 3D which is apparently quite a good flick so maybe Scott will be knocked off... highly doubtful though.

Ben & Jerry's at the movies 26/08

I had Coffee Coffee Buzz Buzz (??) and Choc Fudge Brownie. mmmmmm

Spring is getting closer and things are getting saucy at Uni - 27/08

Mel celebrates another year of walking about on the planet with a dinner at Al Mustafa complete with awkward drunken dancing from some other diners. Top food and if I were a little more drunk and not high heeled up I would of given the belly dancer a run for her money.

Glasses - 28/08

Some days I have nothing - 29/08

I think the front one is a sculpture and the back is just junk. There is some construction going on.

'sculpture' at Uni - 30/08

Pinko makes a flying visit into town. Pinko, Scace P and I all go to The Rose for trivia and steal a trivia table. Apparently you should book. I suspect there was some cheating going on the other tables... Team 'Moving Forward' put in a good effort and came 5th... I think.

The winning answers - 31/08

I ran. New running singlet in preparation for the Bridge Run. Running not going that great still a bit sick from a few weeks ago. Walking and a brisk jog is fine. Maybe my new racing stripes will get me over the line!

New gear - 01/09

I have signed up for 30 Days Has September where all the money that gets sponsored to me goes to the Ted Noffs Foundation. It is suppose to be something new or interesting everyday of September. I tried chili on the 2nd of September. I don't eat spicy (or flavourful food).

Hawt - 02/09

Another 30DHS thing. I went and saw Dead Letter Circus at The Metro. I had, somewhat, avoided heavier concerts in the past because I seem to always be near the group of dickheads that like to push others around. Type of people that use a rock concert to let out any aggression.

I really like their work. The Evening Son warmed the room. A Newcastle group that I will keep an eye out for when they tour again. Best gig I have been to in a while.

Dead Letter Circus - 03/09

Painted my nails. Never really do it, don't see the point. Usually have shoes on *and* I am not exactly the best at it (shaky hands)

Little piggies - 04/09

Mel and I take on some A-Towns. Avalon and Akuna Bay. First stop on the way... Pirate Mini Golf!

Practicing for my other 30DHS task... surfing - 05/09

P bought me a chocolate from her trip over the mountains. From a chocolate shop in Leura. Must visit myself. Despite the lingering flu I could still taste the chocolate-y coffee-y goodness.

A boat - 06/09

She also gave me some Avo's. Nailed near a full one for breakie!

Teeny tiny Avo - 07/09

Its a kettle from a film noir film. You would expect to see a looming figure at the backdoor. I was home alone so that couldn't be arranged.

Shiny - 08/09

Birthday Dinner at Billy Kwongs! Have walked past and read about this place for a bit but had to await a special occasion to go. P's birthday fiesta continued so off to the awkward three legged stools we went.

Fantastic. Get some. We had pancakes and cinnamon and orange duck some chicken and a little bit of wine. Hope you had a wonderful birthday festival P! Lovely staff, awesome food. Worth the wait.

The debate continues as to what to order - 09/09

Hopefully my comp will be fixed soon...
